Full body illumination - sleep and recovery (VBLOG)

Could Light therapy improve your recovery efficiency during your sleep?

A new paper that was released last week (August 2022) showed positive effects of full body illumination with a LED device used at home. The paper showed that college level athletes were able to improve recovery with less sleep when using photobiomodulation.

The video below goes over the study, why it is important and the limitations.

The improvements in recovery and augmentation of sleep could prove useful for many different population, not just athletes. It builds upon laboratory work that has continued to show improvements in many biochemical markers of recovery when using photobiomodulation (PBMT). This paper showed "real world" application for improved recovery.

For me, the most interesting part was the augmented sleep patterns. After PBMT, the sleep duration was shorter, yet recovery was improved. This implies that the recovery obtained within the sleep and prior to sleep was more efficient.
