BioWave Core DeskBuddy — Red Light Therapy at Your Desk
(Norsk: BioWave Core Bordlampe — rødlysterapi på skrivebordet)
The smallest panel in the BioWave Core range. Designed to sit at desk or bedside height and deliver therapeutic 660nm and 850nm light to your face, neck, or hands during sessions you'd be sitting there anyway. No installation, no dedicated time, just position it and let it run while you work.
How Red Light Supports Screen Workers — and What It Doesn't Do
The DeskBuddy is popular among screen workers, but it's worth being clear about the mechanism. Red and NIR light do not block or reverse blue light absorption. What they do is support mitochondrial ATP production and reduce inflammatory response at a cellular level — providing a positive stimulus that compensates in part for the cellular stress accumulated during extended screen time.
For blue light itself — the circadian and melatonin problem — amber evening bulbs and blue-blocking glasses are the direct solution. The DeskBuddy is the photobiomodulation complement to that, not a substitute for it.
📏 225 × 125 × 30mm
Sits on a desk, nightstand, or shelf without taking up meaningful space. Plug in and position.
🔴 660nm + 850nm
Red (skin-level collagen and surface healing) and NIR (deeper anti-inflammatory and tissue repair). Selectable: red only, NIR only, or both.
⚡ 110 mW/cm² · 66W
Professional-level irradiance for a compact device. Enough for genuine photobiomodulation response at 15–30cm.
🔇 Silent Passive Cooling
No fan. Runs quietly in any environment without the hum that larger units can produce.
⚖️ 1.2kg
Light enough to carry between rooms or take on a work trip.
🛡️ 3-Year Warranty
Longest warranty in the range — the BioWave Core build quality backing it.
Where It Fits in Your Day
💻 During Work
Face and neck at desk height. 10–15 minutes while responding to emails.
🌙 Evening Wind-Down
Bedside position, red mode, before sleep. The warm wavelengths support circadian timing.
🎯 Targeted Treatment
Face, neck, chest, wrists — the specific area that needs daily attention.
📚 While Reading
Position alongside where you read. Passive therapy during time you're already sitting.
Benefits of Daily Targeted Sessions
- Skin and collagen: 660nm at 15–20cm stimulates fibroblast activity — visible changes to texture and tone within 4–6 weeks of consistent daily use
- Pain and inflammation at desk height: Neck, shoulders, and wrists responding to deep-seated daily use
- Energy and focus: Mitochondrial ATP support — effects are cumulative and most noticeable after 2–3 weeks of consistent sessions
- Sleep preparation: Evening sessions with warm wavelengths support the circadian wind-down without the blue-light disruption of screens
🇳🇴 Screen Workers in Mørketid
During Norwegian winter, a screen worker faces compressed light: reduced outdoor daylight plus indoor LED and screen exposure dominating their light environment. The DeskBuddy adds a positive photonic stimulus to that environment — something the cell biology genuinely benefits from regardless of season, but especially during the dark months.

From Dominic
The DeskBuddy gets recommended when someone wants to build a daily habit without setting aside dedicated session time. If it's on your desk, you'll use it. If it's somewhere you have to go and retrieve, you often won't. That friction matters more than most people expect.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions
Why use a desk device instead of a full panel?
A desk device handles targeted sessions during time you're already sitting there. Full panels are for wider-area sessions. Most people end up using both — the DeskBuddy for daily face and neck, a panel for body sessions.
Does red light counteract blue light from screens?
Not directly. Red and NIR light support cellular ATP production and reduce inflammation — a positive cellular stimulus that helps with general stress including from screen use. For blue light's direct effect on melatonin, amber bulbs and blue-blocking glasses are the direct solution.
How close should I be?
15–30cm for skin-level work. 20–50cm for broader effect. Closer = higher irradiance. Start at 20–30cm and adjust.
Is daily use safe?
Yes. Red and NIR at these wavelengths is non-thermal and non-ionising. Daily 10–15 minute sessions are standard practice and considered safe.
What's the difference between 660nm and 850nm?
660nm penetrates ~8–10mm — skin, collagen, surface tissue. 850nm goes deeper into muscle and connective tissue. Both are available; you can select red only, NIR only, or combined.
How does this fit into a broader red light routine?
Daily targeted face and neck sessions while working. Step up to a Half Body Gen 3 for torso sessions, or Full Body Mat for whole-body lying-down recovery.
