🌙 Sleep-Safe Motion Sensor Night Light — Amber-Red, Zero Blue Light

(Norsk: Bevegelsesaktivert nattlys — blålysfritt for trygg, søvnvennlig navigasjon)

Light only when you need it. Off when you don't. Pure amber-red (~600nm) that doesn't suppress melatonin — battery or plug-in, three modes, CE and FCC certified.

What Makes This Different from a Regular Night Light

Most night lights use white or cool-white LEDs — convenient but sleep-destructive. Even a few seconds of bright white light during a 3am bathroom trip activates the melanopsin pathway and suppresses melatonin, making it harder to fall back to sleep. This light blocks all blue and green wavelengths (380–550nm) entirely. What's left is pure amber-red — enough illumination to navigate safely, nothing to tell your brain it's morning.

Who Uses It

👨‍👩‍👧 Parents with Young Children

Check on kids during the night without turning on overhead lights. Nighttime feeds and nappy changes without fully waking anyone.

🤰 Pregnancy

Frequent 3am bathroom trips are draining enough without the added hit of melatonin suppression that makes falling back to sleep harder.

👴 Elderly

Fall prevention matters. This provides enough light to move safely without any of the melatonin disruption that comes from turning on a standard light.

💤 Poor Sleepers

If you're already struggling with sleep, a bright bathroom light at 3am can reset your circadian signal and push your sleep window significantly later.

🏥 Shift Workers

Night shift workers sleeping during the day need maximum melatonin protection when they wake in their dark hours. Every exposure counts.

👶 Babies and Toddlers

Newborns' circadian systems are still developing. Protecting their nighttime light environment from the start supports sleep pattern development.

The Circadian Case for Amber-Only Nighttime Light

Melanopsin — the photopigment in intrinsically photosensitive retinal ganglion cells (ipRGCs) — has peak sensitivity around 480nm (blue-cyan). Activation of these cells suppresses melatonin via the suprachiasmatic nucleus (SCN). Blue-enriched white LEDs reliably activate this pathway; amber wavelengths above ~580nm have minimal effect on it.

  • Blue light (380–550nm) — activates melanopsin, suppresses melatonin, signals daytime
  • Amber-red (~600nm) — minimal melanopsin activation, melatonin production continues
  • Motion activation — limits total exposure to only the seconds you're actually moving
  • 30 lumens — sufficient for navigation without overwhelming dark-adapted eyes

Research on blue light and melatonin suppression consistently supports the principle behind amber nighttime lighting — though individual sensitivity varies and the exact dose-response differs between people.

🇳🇴 Long Norwegian Nights

Norwegian winters mean navigating your home in complete darkness multiple times a night, every night, for months. Every bathroom visit with a bright white light can significantly disrupt your ability to fall back to sleep. The motion sensor handles it without you having to think about it — light appears for 20 seconds, then disappears.

Dominic Lamb — Home Light Therapy Norway

From Dominic

The glasses handle the screens. The amber bulbs handle the rooms. But the bathroom light at 3am is the one most people forget — and it's often the thing that makes falling back to sleep genuinely difficult. Motion-activated amber costs almost nothing to run and solves that problem automatically.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

Why motion-activated amber instead of always-on?

Always-on lights expose you to light throughout the night, suppressing melatonin even when you're not moving. Motion activation means light only appears when you actually need to navigate — for 20 seconds at a time — then disappears. The amber wavelength means even those 20 seconds don't suppress melatonin.

What makes amber light different from white at night?

Amber wavelengths above ~580nm have minimal effect on the melanopsin pathway that drives melatonin suppression. Blue wavelengths (peaking around 450–480nm) strongly activate it. Amber gives your eyes navigation light without sending a daytime signal to your circadian system.

Battery or plug-in?

Battery for portability and flexible placement — good for renters or locations without a nearby outlet. Plug-in for permanent fixed locations like hallways and bathrooms where you want it to work reliably every night without charging.

How far does the sensor detect?

3–5 metres in AUTO mode, in darkness only. Auto shut-off 20 seconds after motion stops.

Is 30 lumens enough to see?

Yes. Once your eyes are dark-adapted, 30 lumens of amber light is adequate for hallway and bathroom navigation. Amber is easier on dark-adapted eyes than white, so visibility is better than the number implies.

Can I use this in children's rooms?

Yes. Zero blue light, AUTO mode means no all-night glow. Check-ins happen without turning on any other light.

Note: For general wellness. The circadian biology of blue light and melatonin suppression is well-established; individual responses vary.
