AfterDark™ — Built to Last

Pulse Blue Light Blocking Glasses

TR90 frame with metal-reinforced hinges, spectrometer-tested lenses. The frame for people who are hard on their glasses - flexible where it needs to bend, reinforced where cheap frames actually fail.

⚡ The frame that survives daily use
TR90 + metal inserts ✅ CE certified 🔬 Spectrometer-tested 🌿 Hypoallergenic 🇳🇴 Ships from Drammen

What makes the Pulse frame different from the rest of the AfterDark range?

The Pulse pairs an ultralight TR90 body with metal-reinforced hinges, the exact point where cheaper frames crack after months of daily on-and-off wear. Same spectrometer-tested Sundown Orange and Moonlight Red lenses as every AfterDark pair. It's the frame built for people who are hard on their glasses.

Flexible where it bends. Reinforced where it fails.

Most TR90 glasses fail the same way: the flexible body holds up fine, but the hinge - the one part doing real mechanical work every single time you put the glasses on or take them off - eventually fatigues and cracks. It's the single most common failure point in cheap blue light glasses.

The Pulse addresses that directly. Metal inserts reinforce the hinges while the rest of the frame stays TR90's featherlight, memory-polymer flex. You get a frame that bounces back from being sat on or shoved in a bag, with the one weak point everyone else ignores built up to handle it.

Who the Pulse is right for, and when to consider something else

Good fit for you if:
  • You've broken or bent a pair of glasses before
  • Glasses live in a bag, pocket, or get put on and off constantly
  • You want the lightest frame that still feels sturdy
  • Sensitive skin - hypoallergenic TR90 matters to you
  • You want a frame that just works without thinking about it
Consider another frame if:
  • You want the most discreet look, see the Ghost
  • You want a familiar rectangular shape as a safe first pair, see the Classic
  • You want instant lens swapping, the Phase Shift has a magnetic system

Frame specifications

🪶

Featherlight TR90 body

Lightweight thermoplastic polymer that barely registers on your face, even across a full evening of wear.

🔩

Metal-reinforced hinges

The point where most TR90 frames eventually fail, built up to handle years of daily on-off use.

🔄

Memory polymer

Flexes under pressure and bounces back to shape - sat on, packed in a bag, or bent, it recovers.

🌿

Hypoallergenic build

Gentle on sensitive skin, unlike some metal or acetate frames that can irritate with extended contact.

🔴

CR39 optical lenses

Optically superior clarity to standard polycarbonate, with a scratch-resistant coating built to last.

Sundown — Amber 🟠 Early evening 98.5% blue light blocked
Also blocks 95% of cyan (500-550nm). Colour perception shifted but functional - conversations, TV and screens all remain comfortable. For 2-3 hours before bed.

The right starting point for most people.
⏰ 2-3 hours before bed
Moonlight — Red 🔴 Pre-sleep & summer 99%+ blue & green light blocked
Full 380-550nm blocked. Colour perception significantly altered. For the final stretch before sleep, or Nordic summer evenings when it's still bright outside.

Essential during midnattsol season.
🌙 Final hour before sleep
Nooner — Yellow — 500 kr ☀️ Daytime screen use 75% blue light blocked
A lighter block than Sundown Amber or Moonlight Red, on purpose. Reduces digital eye strain and blue light exposure during the day without cutting deep enough to suppress the alertness you need to get through your afternoon.

For daytime, not evening wind-down.
☀️ Daytime, any screen session

🇳🇴 Pulse blålysbriller for a Norwegian evening

Norwegian evenings mean a lot of picking glasses up and putting them down - dinner, screens, the walk between rooms, taking them off to answer the door. Frames that fail do it here, at the hinge, from repetition rather than a single dramatic break. The Pulse's metal-reinforced hinges are built specifically for that kind of daily cycle, not just the initial flex.

Combine Sundown Orange with amber or red evening lighting during mørketid, and switch to Moonlight Red in the final stretch before bed once midnattsol keeps the sky bright past your usual bedtime.

Evening protocol

Morning
No glasses. Morning natural light anchors your circadian rhythm and makes evening melatonin more reliable. Morning rødlysterapi panels complement this well.
~19:00
Pulse Sundown Orange on. From dinner, 2-3 hours before bed. Being lightweight and durable, this is the pair you'll actually remember to grab on the way to the sofa.
~21:00
Optional: switch to Moonlight Red for the final hour. Particularly useful during Norwegian summer when the sky stays bright late.
~22:00+
Sleep. Most people notice faster sleep onset within 3-5 nights. Deeper improvements develop over 2-4 weeks as the circadian rhythm stabilises.

From Dominic, on the Pulse

When someone tells me they've broken a pair of glasses before, sat on them, had the hinge snap after a few months, the Pulse is what I point them to. It's not the most stylish frame in the range or the most invisible one. It's the one built to survive being treated the way glasses actually get treated in real life.

Same lenses, same spectrometer numbers as every AfterDark pair. The difference is entirely in how long the frame itself holds up.

Questions about the Pulse

What makes the Pulse frame more durable than other TR90 glasses?
Standard TR90 frames flex well but tend to crack at the hinge after months of daily on-off wear. The Pulse reinforces that exact point with metal inserts, so the flexible memory-polymer body has a durable core where the stress actually concentrates. Frame material affects longevity, not lens protection - all AfterDark lenses are identical regardless of frame.
Sundown Orange or Moonlight Red, which lens should I start with?
Sundown Orange for most evenings, worn 2-3 hours before bed - it maintains enough colour perception for TV, screens and normal social time. Moonlight Red is for the final stretch before sleep, or Norwegian summer evenings when it's still bright outside. Most people start with Sundown Orange and add Moonlight Red later if needed.
Er Pulse-brillene hypoallergene?
Ja. TR90-materialet som brukes i Pulse-rammen er hypoallergent og skånsomt mot sensitiv hud, i motsetning til enkelte metall- eller acetatinnfatninger som kan irritere huden ved langvarig kontakt.
How much blue light do the Pulse lenses block?
Sundown Orange blocks 98.5% of blue light and 95% of cyan. Moonlight Red blocks over 99% of both blue and green light across the 380-550nm range. Both are spectrometer-tested, with the certificate included in the box - the same lenses used across the entire AfterDark range.
Kan jeg bruke Pulse-brillene til bilkjøring?
Nei.
Yes, that's specifically what it's built for. The combination of a flexible TR90 body with metal-reinforced hinges targets the two most common failure points in cheaper frames - snapping under sideways pressure and hinge fatigue from daily on-off use.
What is the Nooner Yellow lens for?
The Nooner Yellow lens blocks 75% of blue light, less than the Sundown Amber or Moonlight Red lenses. That's deliberate: it's built for daytime screen use, when you want reduced eye strain and some blue light protection without suppressing the alertness you need to get through your afternoon.
