Full-rim rectangular TR90 frame. The shape that works with any face, feels like a normal pair of glasses, and does exactly what it needs to do. No compromises, no surprises.
📐 The frame that works for everyoneThere's a version of this where choosing a frame is a ten-minute decision tree. The Obsidian has maximum coverage; the Ghost is almost invisible; the Phase Shift lets you swap lenses with a magnet. All of those features serve specific needs well.
The Classic serves the most common need: you want blålysbriller that feel like a normal pair of glasses, fit comfortably for an entire evening, look like something you'd wear anyway, and protect your melatonin properly. Rectangular full-rim frames are what most people already own in some form — reading glasses, prescription glasses, sunglasses. The shape is familiar and the fit is predictable.
If you're buying your first pair of blue light blocking glasses and genuinely unsure which frame to choose, the Classic is the one least likely to be a mistake for any face shape.
Wider lens, closer face fit. Best for strong overhead lighting. More prominent on the face.
View Obsidian →Full-rim rectangular. Works with any face. Familiar, comfortable, reliable — the safe first choice.
Semi-rimless, nearly invisible. For people who dislike the look of wearing glasses.
View Ghost →Standard full-rim construction with a classic rectangular lens shape. The most universally flattering frame geometry — softens round and oval faces, adds structure to square and heart-shaped profiles.
Lightweight thermoplastic polymer — flexible under pressure, lighter than acetate, more durable than standard polycarbonate. Comfortable for long evening wear without the weight fatigue of heavier materials.
Spring hinges with metal reinforcement — where most TR90 frames eventually fail after months of daily use. These hold under the repeated stress of putting glasses on and taking them off every evening.
Optical-grade glass lens — lower peripheral distortion than polycarbonate, which matters across a 2–3 hour evening session. The same lens used across every AfterDark frame.
Right starting point for most people.
Essential during midnattsol season.
Mørketid: When January arrives and you're spending every waking hour under artificial lighting, the Classic's full-rim frame provides solid all-round coverage for standard home LED environments. You don't need the Obsidian's extra peripheral coverage unless your room lighting is particularly strong or overhead-angled. For most Norwegian living rooms, the Classic covers the job.
Midnattsol: Come June, pair the Classic's Moonlight Red lens with good amber or red evening lighting in the bedroom. The outdoor light through the windows is harder to block entirely, but the combination eliminates the artificial light sources you can control — which is most of what's suppressing your melatonin.
The Classic is also a reliable option to buy for family members or give as a gift when you're confident about the science but not about the other person's frame preferences. The rectangular shape and standard proportions work across most face types and ages.

Wondering whether to start with the Classic or jump straight to the Phase Shift? Our guide to blålysbriller for Norwegian lifestyles breaks down which frame suits which situation — including gifting, shared households, and the mørketid vs midnattsol split.
When someone tells me they just want to get started without overthinking it, the Classic is what I point them to. There's no strong reason not to choose it unless you have a specific need the other frames meet better — strong overhead lighting (Obsidian), wanting to be invisible about it (Ghost), or wanting both lenses in one frame (Phase Shift).
The Classic is also the one I most often suggest for gifting. If you're buying for a parent, partner, or friend who you know would benefit but might not immediately appreciate the Obsidian's size, the Classic's familiar rectangular shape and normal proportions land better with people who aren't already sold on the concept.
Same lens quality, same spectrometer-tested numbers, same circadian result — just in the shape most people already know how to wear.
