The boldest, widest frame in the AfterDark range. TR90 flex body, metal-reinforced hinges, CR39 optical lenses. Blocks peripheral light that slimmer frames miss — nothing gets in from the sides.
★ Most popular in the AfterDark rangeMost blue light blocking glasses leak. Light sneaks in from the sides, over the top, underneath the frame — and that peripheral light still hits the melanopsin cells in your retina. The Obsidian was designed with a wider lens and a closer face fit specifically to solve this. It's the frame Dominic recommends first to anyone who asks where to start, and consistently the one that gets reordered when a lens gets scratched.
"Veldig bra briller. Ingenting blått lys slipper inn og brillene dekker hele øyet."
— Verified customer review, Home Light Therapy
TR90 thermoplastic polymer — lightweight, flexible, and impact-resistant. Bends under pressure without snapping. Lighter than acetate, more durable than standard polycarbonate.
Metal-reinforced spring hinges — the point where most TR90 frames eventually fail. Allows the temple arms to flex outward slightly for a more comfortable and secure fit across different head widths.
CR39 optical glass — the industry standard for quality eyewear. Significantly lower peripheral distortion than polycarbonate, which matters during 2–3 hours of continuous evening wear.
Wider-than-average lens profile sits close to the face. Reduces the gap between frame and skin, cutting peripheral light entry from the sides — the primary reason full-coverage frames outperform narrower alternatives.

Essential during midnattsol season.
The Obsidian's wider frame isn't about style. It's about what happens when a frame doesn't sit close enough to your face:
- Lens edge close to face — minimal gap
- Peripheral blue light blocked from sides
- Melanopsin cells protected across the retina
- Consistent melatonin protection during full evening
- Less distraction from light leaking at the edges
- Gap between lens edge and face allows side light in
- Peripheral retinal cells still receive blue-range light
- Partial melatonin suppression continues despite the lens
- Results less consistent — especially in brighter rooms
- More noticeable light leak in rooms with overhead lighting
During mørketid: When it's dark outside but you're sitting under LED ceiling lights, the wide Obsidian frame provides significantly better protection than narrower alternatives. Overhead and side-angled LED light sources are exactly where peripheral leakage is worst. Wide coverage solves this.
During midnattsol: If you're in northern Norway in June, the ambient evening light is so strong that even with orange lenses you'll want the Moonlight Red for the final hour. The Obsidian's tight fit means you're not getting stray summer evening light around the edges when it really matters.
The Obsidian is the frame Dominic wears personally and recommends first to Norwegians dealing with both extremes — the endless-light summers and the artificial-light winters. For a complete døgnrytme setup, pair it with amber or red evening lighting in your home. The glasses handle your screens; the bulbs handle everything else.
The Obsidian handles your eyes. These products handle the rest of your evening light environment — and your morning circadian anchor:

Want to understand how blocking levels and frames interact with Norwegian light conditions? Our blog post on choosing blålysbriller for Norwegian families covers it in detail — including why the Obsidian performs differently from a slim metal frame during mørketid overhead lighting.
When someone contacts me and says "just tell me which one to start with," I say Obsidian in Sundown Orange. The wide frame is the main reason — I've had too many people come to me after trying a slim pair that looked great but just didn't cover enough. Light was leaking in from the sides and they weren't getting the results they expected. The Obsidian doesn't have that problem.
It's not the most subtle frame. It's a bit of a statement. But when you're wearing it at home in the evening to actually protect your sleep, that's fine. No one cares what your glasses look like while you're watching TV. And if you want something more discreet for travel or social situations, the Flight or Halo are there for that.
These are the glasses I personally wear most evenings. If you have questions about fit, or whether the Obsidian is right for your situation, just reach out.
